Solid pulp fantasy/sci-fi。 The art is fantastic and fits the story really well。

A lot darker than expected。

Wow。 I have always been a fan of Thor, but what the creators have done with this story is moving me to tears。 I am reading this arch before I begin Thor stepping down and another stepping up。 I didn't expect it to be so great。 Also, the art and style is phenomenal。 Wow。 I have always been a fan of Thor, but what the creators have done with this story is moving me to tears。 I am reading this arch before I begin Thor stepping down and another stepping up。 I didn't expect it to be so great。 Also, the art and style is phenomenal。 。。。more

This was quite epic!We pick up with the God of Thunder as he goes to Planet Indigarr helping people when they pray to him but when he discovers no gods there, he goes to check on the gods of that plane only to find no one there and sees them butchered and all he can think about is: Gorr the Godbutcher。 We jump to 893 AD when Thor first encountered Gorr and his battles him which were dark and intense and in the present day he goes to Omnipotence city and meets Shadrak and learns of what the fates This was quite epic!We pick up with the God of Thunder as he goes to Planet Indigarr helping people when they pray to him but when he discovers no gods there, he goes to check on the gods of that plane only to find no one there and sees them butchered and all he can think about is: Gorr the Godbutcher。 We jump to 893 AD when Thor first encountered Gorr and his battles him which were dark and intense and in the present day he goes to Omnipotence city and meets Shadrak and learns of what the fates of various gods has been and goes to find the Gorr and his black berserks。 Meanwhile in the future Old King Thor has risen and what happens when all stories clash? Why is Gorr after Gods and whats his ultimate plan? This book was just epic and I love how Aaron is building this epic tale about Gorr and Thor and how he is a god slayer and targeting them and its rooted in his deep resentment of his plus showcasing 3 timelines and from that perspective it makes it so cool。 Plus the art by Ribic is majestic and gives this book that vibe which makes it so much more better and the gravitas of it is splendid。 Loved this volume a lot and the narration like old legend。。type of writing style of Aaron。 A must read for sure。 。。。more

Tade Thompson (of Rosewater fame) told me this was one of the best stories in comics and he was absolutely right。 Consider me stunned。 Be warned, however, this is part one of two (I think, though there's 18 issues in this authors' run with 11 contained in the first two volumes) and you WILL need to know what happens next。 Tade Thompson (of Rosewater fame) told me this was one of the best stories in comics and he was absolutely right。 Consider me stunned。 Be warned, however, this is part one of two (I think, though there's 18 issues in this authors' run with 11 contained in the first two volumes) and you WILL need to know what happens next。 。。。more

The illustrations are stunning and so detailed despite the sinister plot。Really enjoyed the story although I found the different timelines to be slightly confusing at first。

Yeah, I'm not really sure I even like this。 Thankfully I read this on Kindle Unlimited and the rest of the run is in my local library so the only thing I'm losing is time。 It was recommended as a prelude to King in Black but so far I don't see the connection。 Yeah, I'm not really sure I even like this。 Thankfully I read this on Kindle Unlimited and the rest of the run is in my local library so the only thing I'm losing is time。 It was recommended as a prelude to King in Black but so far I don't see the connection。 。。。more

Outstanding run。 Absolutely one of the best and well executed story arcs for Marvel in the past 20 years。

Okay, there is a good (Which is why the 5 stars) and a bad, which led to some cursing by me, but not enough to affect the rating, component to this book。 And yes, even though it entails a bit of a spoiler, I will tell you about each。 Lets start with the good。 What a story! Thor, who is even longer lived than I thought, encounters a murderous being who is out to rid the universe of every god that ever lived。 And it is not enough for him to kill them, he has to make them suffer。 Part of the mystery of the story is the unravelling of that motivation。 Thor encounters him in the ninth century, where he appeared to like to hang out with Vikings, and an epic battle ensues。 He runs across him again, 1,200 years later and an epic battle ensues。 Then again in the distant future, where an epic。。。 you get the picture。 We get to see Thor deal with regrets but we also get to see him persistently pursue a foe like no other god。 It is a good story that unveils a lot about the pantheons of the Gods and why Thor is deserving of his hammer, Mjolnir。 Okay, that all sounds great。 A real baddie, lots of action, a mystery, a massive spanning canvas to paint it all on。 What could possibly be bad about all that? Well, here it is。 The bad。They do not run the full story! Just as we are reaching what we think will be the ultimate confrontation, it ends! Come on Marvel! Why didn't you keep going and take us through to a conclusion? Boo-hiss! Very disappointing! Now I have to search out the following issues in order to see how it all turns out。 Not sure what governed this editorial decision, but I have to say I disagree with it。Having said that, there are lots of nice touches in this book。 For one, Thor's speech bubbles are all in gothic script。 Everyone else's is regular lettering and I quite enjoyed that。 It set him apart and distinguished him as different from mortals。 I also enjoyed seeing him at different stages in his long life。 The rambunctious youth, the seasoned warrior, the weary king。 Quite a lot of ground to cover。 One fine note is the librarian (Thor and a librarian? Really?) who is so cynically funny that I read his parts twice as they made me laugh so much。 Great addition in what could have been a despondent story。 There are some extras。 A cover gallery and some of the rough sketches, but I would have given them up for the conclusion of the story。 Still, what you get is awesome and shows why Thor is such an integral part of the marvel universe。 。。。more

There was a lot going on here, and I don’t particularly care for Thor。 Was reading it because it’s my manager’s favorite comic。 It was good?

10/10 would recommend。 Do you think you've seen the best of Thor? What about seeing three okay-but-still-have-lessons-to-learn Thors? If you did the math that adds up to better than the best Thor, I'm pretty sure。 I'll double-check on that。 In all seriousness, this sets the scene for an amazing "what if" when it comes to a universe chock-full of different gods and god-kind。 What if someone challenged this concept on a MASSIVE scale? Jason Aaron killed it with this one, spoiler alert。 10/10 would recommend。 Do you think you've seen the best of Thor? What about seeing three okay-but-still-have-lessons-to-learn Thors? I loved this! I started reading Thor relatively recently, partially because I enjoyed the Loki Agent of Asgard run and wanted backstory, partially because I wanted to see the Foster Thor。 Prior to this most of the Thor comics have felt a bit meh to me, I enjoyed them still but they weren't comics I'd read again and again the first run through was enough, and during the Mighty Thor/Everything Burns story arc I even felt that the Loki portions of the story with Journey Into Mystery stole the show I loved this! The Thor story I needed after solely being exposed to the MCU version for a decade。 Really lands the gravity of Thor as a literal god-like character。 The story has a really impactful character too with Gorr the God ButcherYou should read this for the art by Esad Ribiç alone。 The painted covers are some of the best I've ever seen and the interiors try to maintain that same level as best as they can。 The Thor story I needed after solely being exposed to the MCU version for a decade。 Really lands the gravity of Thor as a literal god-like character。 The story has a really impactful character too with Gorr the God ButcherYou should read this for the art by Esad Ribiç alone。 The painted covers are some of the best I've ever seen and the interiors try to maintain that same level as best as they can。 。。。more

This is the first COMIC story I have ever read, and to say it is confusing is an understatement。 Multiple time skips on a single page, mysterious characters both heavily led to a very broken understanding of what was occurring throughout the story。 A lot of this may come just from my lack of experience both in the universe, and the genre itself, so I do hope to revisit the story one day in the future when I have developed a deeper understanding of the Marvel comic book universe。Despite my lack o This is the first COMIC story I have ever read, and to say it is confusing is an understatement。 Multiple time skips on a single page, mysterious characters both heavily led to a very broken understanding of what was occurring throughout the story。 A lot of this may come just from my lack of experience both in the universe, and the genre itself, so I do hope to revisit the story one day in the future when I have developed a deeper understanding of the Marvel comic book universe。Despite my lack of understanding, I do still believe that the basis of story was absorbed by me, and the characterisation displayed by both Thor and Gorr are evident to the point where both character's motives can be understood。I've given the story a three, BUT take that with a pinch of salt as a future reread will likely have that rating change 。。。more

This volume sets the stage of the God Butcher arc by introducing this god-slaying terror and laying the ground for the time-jumping conflict involving the various incarnations of Thor。 This is a very fun read and definitely feels Thor-worthy as the conflict spans millennia and entire universes, fitting for a character of mythic fame。I especially love the art style, particularly during the viking era。 Seeing Thor in the context he was originally worshipped in provides a solid ground for the chara This volume sets the stage of the God Butcher arc by introducing this god-slaying terror and laying the ground for the time-jumping conflict involving the various incarnations of Thor。 This is a very fun read and definitely feels Thor-worthy as the conflict spans millennia and entire universes, fitting for a character of mythic fame。I especially love the art style, particularly during the viking era。 Seeing Thor in the context he was originally worshipped in provides a solid ground for the character。 。。。more

This is one of the best Marvel/Avengers comic books that I've ever read。 It's fast paced, mysterious, and it engages you very early on。 The illustrations are eye catching and the plot was interesting。 I loved seeing all the different gods both made-up and different cultures from earth。 I'm already trying to figure out how to make my money stretch to buy the rest in the series。 This is one of the best Marvel/Avengers comic books that I've ever read。 It's fast paced, mysterious, and it engages you very early on。 The illustrations are eye catching and the plot was interesting。 I loved seeing all the different gods both made-up and different cultures from earth。 I'm already trying to figure out how to make my money stretch to buy the rest in the series。 。。。more

Really exciting narrative with intetesting jumps between past, present and future Thor。 It's easy to see why the MCU took so much inspiration for the Thor films from Jason Aaron's writing。 The artwork is vivid and dynamic。 Really exciting narrative with intetesting jumps between past, present and future Thor。 It's easy to see why the MCU took so much inspiration for the Thor films from Jason Aaron's writing。 The artwork is vivid and dynamic。 。。。more
